We've been putting the much sought-after Austinist stamp of Approval on
Pink Nasty-who is neither pinkish, nor nasty-for some time now. And for good reason. Through thick, thin, or drunk the slick simplicity of her material always downplays the otherwise ragged resplendence of the sentiments behind it, and the formula keeps working and working. It's always a pleasure to catch her show, or simply brush against her at the bar (not that we have a small Moleskine dedicated to cataloging our encounters with her or anything *awkward laugh*.) The edgy siren has had some brushes with national press in the past featured on NPR's Song Of The Day, various blogs, and paper press but still remains on the outskirts of widespread stardom. Rest assured, Pink: we will continue to pull for you until that day, as we know that day is not long in coming so say us.
In the meantime, why dontcha catch her at ye olde Stubb's musickal venue this gloriously chilly eve? Minneapolis' gorgeous daughter Caroline Smith & her Good Night Sleeps will be in attendance. Their music is as much an earful as their group's name is a mouthful. It's a damn sight more cheery than Pink's, in the vein of Scout Niblett, so there'll be a full emotional spectrum on display for you moody freaks. The Lovely Sparrows open, and that's a maraschino cherry of appealing indie-folk on top to seal the deal.
