Those who've seen Broken Social Scene before may possibly recall that they are really durn good on stage. There are a whole bunch of them, they've all got talent, and as a strikingly peculiar bonus, they really seem to enjoy playing music with one another. And while the cascading guitars and sheer magnitude of their multi-instrumental assault may at times careen towards chaos, it always safely returns to the confectionary bliss of pure 21st century popism. The ever-shifting lineup is always a primary source of finger-pointing amusement for long-time fans, as it's always a big surprise du jour finding out who exactly is going to show up at any given performance—just recently, even Modest Mouse's Isaac Brock dropped by for a few songs. Just for the hell of it, here's a nearly (but not quite) exhaustive list of the acts spawned by or otherwise related in some way, shape, or form to Broken Social Scene: Feist, Stars, Do Make Say Think, Kevin Drew, Apostle of Hustle, Metric, Brendan Canning, k-os, Reverie Sound Revue, Chikita Violenta, Jason Collett, Dinosaur Jr., James Shaw, Team B, and The Weakerthans.

Opening up at this particular Bass Hall Concert is the neurobiologist's spelling bee nightmare, Lymbyc Systym. When they aren't being fans of the letter Y, the lately-praised Arizona duo crafts contagious instrumental tunes. Hearkening back to Broken Social Scene's late 90s roots as an unheard-of ambient act, Lymbyc Systym seems like a more than appropriate stage warmer. Presented by the Performing Arts Center with the Texas Union Student Events Center’s Music and Entertainment Committee, it should be quite the spectacular evening. Just make sure you aren't late, because the show is listed with a tidy 8 p.m. start time.
