Whether someone at City of Austin shares our love for the undead or some enterprising hackers messed around with construction property, the end result is pretty hilarious. See it for yourself on the northbound side of North Lamar by MLK, before it's taken down.
From Eddie C:
Driving north on Lamar away from downtown, what's usually a roadside sign alerting drivers to construction on MLK was instead a helpful warning of a zombie outbreak. I pulled around and snapped a picture on my cellphone. I took a video too, also attached; if you can't make it out, the sign reads, in sequence:"CAUTION! ZOMBIES! AHEAD!!!"
"RUN FOR COLD CLIMATES"
"THE END IS NEAR!!!!!!!!"
Amazing. Photo and video by Eddie C. Thanks to everyone who sent this in!
Here's another video clip by Dustin Coates.

As of 2:30am, there was a southbound mirror to that message as well. I didn't get out of my car to take a picture, though, because it wasn't quite as inspired.
That second sign did, however, let me know that there were *Nazi Zombies*, so I figure those copycat pranksters love them some Call of Duty.
I just love that that means that so many people have figured out how to change what those traffic signs say. Soon it's gonna be like L.A. Story, but for real.
It was that way southbound when this pic was taken, too, but I also preferred the northbound sign.
Looks like someone read this blog entry last week:
Hacking Road Signs, from Gizmodo.com
Finally Mayor Wynn's bizarre "Thriller" dance explained. Obviously the Undead PAC has gotten to him.
The very lovely and talented Kate Weidaw did a report on the sign mod this morning on KXAN. Mentioned that the, um, vandalism of the sign is a Class C Misdemeanor.
Congratulations - this story made the number 3 spot on the BBC's Odd Box rundown of weird news stories from around the world.
