The Juan MacLean @ Beauty Bar this Thursday

Scion’s free-with-RSVP events have fast become a mainstay of Austin’s nightlife. A DJ set by The Juan MacLean (a.k.a. John MacLean) is the feature attraction at this Thursday’s shindig at Beauty Bar. MacLean was a founding member of Six Finger Satellite -- (future DFA Records co-founder) James Murphy joined the team in the late 90’s to produce the band’s Law of Ruins album. After the initial demise of Six Finger Satellite, MacLean took some time off for personal development. He was eventually coaxed back into music by Murphy; MacLean’s debut solo album Less Than Human arrived in 2005. (Last year, Six Finger Satellite announced plans to reunite, sans MacLean.)

MacLean dropped the Happy House and The Simple Life 12" records in 2008; his latest full-length, The Future Will Come is scheduled for release in March of 2009. Learning SecretsIan Orth gets the party started this evening -- check out the latest LS podcast here. Also on the bill is New York’s Still Going, comprised of Olivier “Liv” Spencer and Eric “Dunks” Duncan. The duo caught Murphy’s eye in 2006 and joined the DFA Records roster soon after -- the Still Going Theme 12" was released the following year.

RSVP here and head down to the Beauty Bar on Thursday to graze on a vast meadow of DFA friendly dance-floor fodder!
