Austinist Show Preview: Jennifer O'Connor and Amy Ray at Stubb's

Ok, stay with us here, things could get complicated. Tonight, at Stubb's indoors there is going to be a concert (!) featuring one of the Indigo Girls. The brunette one. Her name is Amy Ray. Now, according the official bill at Stubb's, Amy's "Rock Band" features Kaia Wilson and Melissa York of The Butchies. From the sounds of it, they may also be lesbians - our research team is furiously poring over dusty tomes in the library to find out. Anyway, this Indigo Girl, Amy is running around supporting her new CD, Didn't It Feel Kinder, which is probably a very good album. The Indigos always seemed pretty tight, so we're sure there's nothing to worry about, she just had some solo stuff rattling around and wanted to do her own thing for a bit.

Now the real meat and potatoes here come in the form of this chanteuse by the name of Jennifer O'Connor. Her musty voice and oblique lyrics can be found on Matador Records, a very legit label whose very mention lends her instant, indubitable credibility. Fortunately, the music she creates is equally impressive. Hell, we've been looking forward to this show so much that we're going out of our way to plug it knowing that Austin music lovers of all shapes, sizes, and sexual persuasions will thoroughly enjoy the performances this evening. So, if you find yourself in the mood for some thoughtful, intelligent indie folk-rock you know exactly which barrelhead to lay the money down on.
