Earlier this week, Direct Events announced their plans to re-open the legendary Backyard venue in a new location near Highway 71 and 620. The old location, opened in 1993, closed in 2008 due to the contentious continuation of development in surrounding areas.

On Tuesday, Backyard owner Tim O'Connor received approval from the City of Bee Cave to change the zoning of the proposed land for the new Backyard. Groundbreaking will begin this spring. From Direct Events:

Sixthriver Architects will lead the design phase of the new Backyard, which will expand capacity from approximately 5,000 to 7,500 and all parking will be contained onsite. To insure that each aspect of this new venue is as environmentally friendly as possible, O’Connor has created a Green Team. Members include: John Jansing of Gray, Jansing & Associates, Inc, Connie Nelson and Tyra Kasey.

There's even a rumor that some old oaks from the original Backyard will be transplanted to the new one.
