This evening, there's only one venue in town where you're going to catch some aggressive electro-crunk hip-hop made by two born-again lesbians. That venue is Mohawk and that duo of roof-raisers is Yo Majesty. Rappers Shunda K and Jwl B, bravely making faces at the chauvinist male hegemony in their scene, have been paving unlikely inroads with their inimitable ditties since 2001. Although Jwl B is sitting this tour out due to personal reasons, Shunda K has held down the fort before to rave reviews so there is no doubt that tonight will be a crazy mess of hopping, hooting, and high spirits. Wear comfortable footwear and be prepared to move.
British Soul bastions Floetry open, who shall deftly prime the crowd with their abject smoothness, another impressive group that's paid their dues and found a respectable foothold. Be sure to stick around for the afterparty, as DJ Jester spins till keesters get kicked out the door. Also, as we've seen before and wish we saw more often at other clubs (hint, hint), major props to the Mo' for keep the musical styles they host diverse. Very, very rad of you, guys.
