Austin Mayor's Race Inspires First Online Parody Ad

Just moments before former Austin mayor and state comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn is expected to fire up this year's mayoral election with her formal announcement to run, Burnt Orange Report released this online clip that parodies Tony Schwartz's famous 1968 ad, "Laughter":

It's unclear whether the 69-year-old Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-Independent, who last vied for the governor's seat in 2006, will again attempt to rally support around her "One Tough Grandma" slogan. Strayhorn previously served as the first (and only) female mayor of Austin for three consecutive terms, from 1977 to 1983.

I hold her personally responsible for the closing of the Armadillo World Headquarters. It's all her fault.

Check out the Chronicle's coverage of her announcement in this week's episode of City Hall Hustle, "Taking the Bull by the Strayhorn", at www.austinchronicle.com/hustle.
