SXSW Update: Harlem, Golden Bear, & Tia Carrera lead Austin charge

SXSW is fast approaching and the blogosphere is already bursting at the seams with a plethora of lists containing “confirmed” and “unconfirmed” artists scheduled to perform at official showcases this year. We’ve done our best to compile the data from the many sources - our list can be viewed after the jump.

The initial list of confirmed acts includes Beach House, Friendly Fires, St. Vincent, Primal Scream, and Black Lips, while there is already a host of Austin bands such as Harlem, Tia Carrera, Pop Unknown, La Snacks, and Golden Bear (to name a few!) making plans to peddle their wares to the bigwigs in town in March. The massive list is not sans a questionable name or two - Maryland’s OH SNAP!! and California’s Skavenjah had us groaning chuckling, and we quite enjoyed sifting through the multi-national flock of winged wonders like Birds of Tokyo, Birds of Wales, Seabird, and T Bird & The Breaks!

The 2009 edition of SXSW Music takes place in Austin, TX from March 18th to March 22nd.

UPDATE!

SXSW has just released another set of confirmed artists. Akron/Family, Crystal Stilts, Explosions In The Sky, Ben Kweller, Reflection Eternal, Asobi Seksu, Mexican Institute Of Sound, and The Crystal Method represent North America’s finest, Europe counters with Peter Bjorn And John and The MOOG, and South American contributions include Mundo Livre S/A and Banda de Turistas. Our enormous list has been updated accordingly as well.
