Austinist Show Preview: New Year's Eve w/ Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears

There's never any shortage of options for fun stuff to do on New Year's Eve, but your realm of possibilities just opened up a little wider. Austin's own up-and-coming fun and bluesy Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears will be ringing in 2009 with some soul at Stubb's inside Wednesday night. You can come enjoy the buffet and a champagne toast, and if you get there early enough, you can even catch San Antonio rock and roll outfit Hacienda.

Black Joe Lewis and his eight or so Honeybears have been burning up the ears of the indie crowd as well as local music buffs for a while now, and they're on the tip of the iceberg of something much bigger, grabbing the eyes of Paste magazine and Brooklyn Vegan among others. Lewis is quite good at crafting blues tunes in an abrasive and rowdy way that could inspire even the most timid to shake a tail feather in celebration of ought nine as the horns blast and Lewis shakes and shouts to the beat. Black Joe and crew have a brand new four-song EP coming out at the end of January on Lost Highway, and their first full-length, Tell 'Em What Your Name Is!, will be out in March.
