Ask a Local: Sara Beck / Pink Nasty

Wichita transplant Sara Beck has been writing and performing as Pink Nasty since 2004, but it was 2006 that brought her talent as a guitarist and bluesy pop singer to the limelight. That year's Mold the Gold (produced by Will Oldham) was a perfect glimpse into the world of a quirky goddess on the fence between boredom and stardom, cheekily pushing the limits of what we expect to hear from the mouth of babes. She's also paid some producer dues, working with her brother Black Nasty on his recent release, AIDS Can't Stop Me. She plays at the Continental Club on January 3, 2009. Here's what floats her boat:
1. Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks Real Emotional Trash - These jams are my jams. When I get done ripping off Pavement I'm gonna start ripping off this. I am also very attracted to him.
2. Lil Wayne - The Carter III I like when he tells me to call him so he can make it juicy for me. What the fuck is his number? I'm dry as bone!
3. White Denim - Whatever record they keep releasing in slightly different versions. I love James Petralli's voice. I wanna duet with him - hey get your mind out of the gutter!
4. Albert Hammond Jr - Como Te Llama - Solid pop jams from my 2nd favorite Stroke. I like all the down strokes on the guitar and his raspy little voice.
5. Cat Power - Jukebox I think I like this record. It's a nice one to duet to - hey get your mind in the gutter!
