As a Michigan native it always frustrates me when Detroit is portrayed in such a negative light. While Michigan Central Station and many of the abandoned buildings are visually compelling, there are so many other Detroit scenes which show success and progress. At a minimum, why not at least present a balanced photoset? It seems that the only images of Detroit that appear to the national eye are images furthering the perception that Detroit is an abandoned wasteland.

Thanks for the lovely pictures of home. I won't be there this Christmas, so it was nice to see them featured on the Austinist. Detroit is crazy. And facinating.
