The Misprint Magazine event also doubles as the release party for the local publication’s Texas Issue. A “normal” set as well as a “special Christmas carols set” from The Hot Pentecostals, and DJ sets by Andy The Mouth and Huge Cock complement the usual Misprint shenanigans which includes attractions such as “free screen-printed holiday stockings, Allen Demling as Santa Clause, bearded kissing booth,” and what not. Entertainment on offer at the Prototype bash includes performances by Amplified Heat, Toko-Ri Get High (read our recent interview with David Smith here), and Wine and Revolution, and DJ sets by Tweedy, DJ McNeely, Scandalizer, and Angel Von Ripper. Prototype’s exquisite décor and eye-catching furnishings made for quite a comfortable media tent experience for us at last month’s Fun Fest. Stop in at the store (1700 1/2 S. Congress, 78704) for “progressive designs from the past that define the modern style of today.”
Check out our preview for The Golden Arm Trio and Invincible Czars Holiday Show here. A screening of Justice’s A Cross The Universe documentary at 11:30 p.m. will precede DJ sets by King Louie and Doneski at The Famousish’s shindig.
Get your Friday night rock ‘n’ roll fix at Room 710 with Broken Teeth and Dixie Witch, or at Trophy’s with Honky and Amplified Heat. Room 710 is kicking off its new cover charge policy this weekend -- $7 admission for one / $10 for two -- this applies to the stage-side door only -- lounge-side door entry remains free. Loxsly and Corto Maltese at The Mohawk, and My Education (Inside) and One-Eyed Doll (Outside) at Emo’s keep the Austin music flag flying high on Saturday.
Drew Smith, Gordy Quist, Plumtucker, MiLkDrive, and BettySoo all perform at Capital Area Food Bank Of Texas’ “Will Rock For Food” concert at Momo’s on Sunday. A donation of $10 or non-expired canned goods will get you in to witness five outstanding local artists, live in concert, and also afford you the piece of mind that you truly made a difference in the lives of Texas residents this year. All proceeds go to the Capital Area Food Bank -- over half of the annual donations are usually obtained during November and December. Doors open at 6 p.m. with BettySoo up first on stage; Drew Smith headlines at 11 p.m.
