The Mohawk (912 Red River)
10 p.m. | Inside

The holiday show is a part of the Invincible Czars’ Fifth Annual “Nutcracker Suite” Holiday Tour, which began in late November in Houston, and marched on this past weekend in Austin with performances at Jovita’s and Zilker Park Trail of Lights. After the gig at The Mohawk, the tour culminates with a concert at the downtown Whole Foods Market with a “skate-along” on the Plaza ice skating rink. The Czars are renowned in town for their exotic, eclectic compositions that run the gamut in terms of genre. The band has also covered a wide range of acts over the years, turning in renditions of Iron Maiden albums as well as Mussorgsky and Schubert classics over the years. Needless to say, their take on the Tchaikovsky masterpiece, honed since 2004 when they first started the tradition, should be well perfected and quite novel.
