Comprised of Greg Martin, Ronny Guyote, and Scott Sevall from Dead Horse and Kurt Brecht from D.R.I., Texas metal super-group (of sorts) Pasadena Napalm Division brings the noise to Room 710 on Saturday. Dead Horse and D.R.I. were both mainstays of the Houston metal scene in the 80’s (and beyond); this new project impeccably harnesses the metal wizardry and technical know-how of its esteemed members as witnessed in this footage from a Houston gig in October.
Also on Saturday, White Ghost Shivers delivers its delightful blend of vaudeville, jazz, folk, and swing at Stubb’s (Inside). Refreshingly unique and always entertaining in concert, the troupe has made a habit of convincing even the most timid attendees to dust off their shoes and head to the dance floor. We think you’d look good there -- enter below for a chance to win two tickets to this show. Promising alt-country locals Mice & Rifles and The Georgian Company open.

Philips GoGear wraps up its three month promotional tour of Austin on Saturday at The Mohawk with the winner of its Undiscovered Austin contest (to be announced tomorrow) opening up for Matt And Kim and The Lemurs. Beauty Bar is home to Car Stereo (Wars)’ Winter Prom on Saturday. It’s going to be quite the gala -- expect a plethora of classic covers from Til We’re Blue or Destroy and dress up for the inevitably hilarious prom themed pictures by one of our favorite photographers in town, Nash Cook. The winners of the prestigious Prom King and Queen awards will receive free haircuts from Birds Barbershop!
There is a tribute to Paul McCartney on Friday and a John Lennon tribute on Saturday at The Parish -- you can check the set-list for the McCartney tribute here and for the Lennon tribute here.
Other choice shows on Friday evening include The Sounds, The Black and White Years, and Car Stereo (Wars) at La Zona Rosa; Lick Lick, The Snake Trap, Transmography, and Black Cock at Creekside Lounge; The Teeners at Beerland; Krum Bums at Red 7; The Boxing Lesson at Emo’s; Lee Simmons at Stubb’s; and The Midgetmen, The Calm Blue Sea, Follow That Bird!, and The Bubbles at The Mohawk. On Sunday, legendary rapper / actor Ice Cube performs at The Mohawk. We’re (eagerly) anticipating a mix of classic numbers from his vast catalog and new material off 2008’s Raw Footage.
