Trail of Lights Opens This Weekend

The annual Trail of Lights at Zilker Park kicks off this Sunday night with a festive grand opening celebration featuring cameos by Santa, local dignitaries, and a fancy parade.

Those wishing to catch an early glimpse of the mile-long lighted spectacle should consider taking part in Saturday's Trail of Lights 5k Race, which starts at the Zilker Tree and winds through the south side of the park before looping back. All are also welcome to participate in the Santa Speedo Run benefiting OutYouth that we told you about a while back — it's not too late to swing by the sports shop to pick up a pair of red skivvies.

This year's Trail of Lights features over forty lighted scenes, a giant Yule Log, a crafts fair, food and beverage stands, a holiday train ride and two stages of entertainment that varies nightly — check the schedule for details. The installations will be open nightly from 7 to 10 p.m., from Dec 14 to 23.
