Low Line Caller’s new effort Hi Def Soft Core is the latest outstanding release produced by the experts at Cacophony Recorders. Stellar songwriting and genuine vocal delivery, augmented by atmospheric textures and new wave nuances, mark the album, and each successive listen leaves us scratching our heads and wondering why gems like “Built Like Gasoline,” “Thief,” and the title track are not constantly on mainstream radio airwaves yet. This evening is also a great opportunity to catch the retro garage-pop stylings of Shapes Have Fangs -- check out our interview with Dustin Coffey from May here.
Ringo Deathstarr took Austin, and some other select cities, by storm last year with the five song shoegaze tornado contained in its self-titled EP but we’re still waiting patiently for a full-length. We caught up with Elliott Frazier earlier this week to check in on recent developments with the band.
Is there a full-length in the works yet? Has Ringo Deathstarr been spending more time in the studio lately, or has the band been busy playing shows?
Elliott Frazier: We are working on the full-length -- still writing songs, and collecting more bells and whistles to make sounds with. We have begun tracking but we can’t just spend a week or 2 in the studio consecutively and be done -- because we ain’t got a recording budget! We are trying to spend more time in the studio now, because once January in over, we will be playing a lot and we will be releasing a 7'' single shortly before the album.
Any recent gigs that stand out?
Our CMJ gig was pretty awesome. The other bands on the bill were amazing -- The Depreciation Guild, My Teenage Stride, A Sunny Day in Glasgow, and of course I have to mention The Pains of Being Pure at Heart -- they're so cute! That tough New York crowd was pretty into it as well.

I know the guys from APTBS but not VERY well -- I mean I guess you could say we have struck up an evil friendship. I don’t really know Sune Rose Wagner but he and I have a mutual friend, Plucky from Spindrift. Everyone is a friend of a friend, you see.
SVC Records released your debut EP in the U.K. -- Has there been an official release in the US? Any labels you've been talking to?
We officially released it in the US under our own label -- that is how we have them available! It wasn’t a big release and we have never done that before, but next time I will know what to do better. We have a distribution deal with an indie distributor, but the labels have ignored us pretty much, probably because we don’t tour enough, but we now have a van so we can live in it if we have to.
What would be one thing you'd like to see the band accomplish in 2009?
In 2009, we hope to inspire change.
