Music News & Notes: the Oaks, Grounded, Baez & More

  • The Oaks, a live music venue situated on 100 acres near Manor, has closed. Steve Dean and Deb Fleming talked to the Statesman about the unfortunate situation, citing noise complaints and citations from the TABC as causes for the demise.
  • One World Theatre has announced An Intimate Evening with Michael McDonald. The legendary blue-eyed soul singer, former Doobie Brother and forever Yacht Rocked provider of such smooth music as "Yah Mo B There" and "What a Fool Believes" will be singing the doobie blues on January 10 - and tickets are a mere $500.
  • C3 has confirmed Joan Baez will be performing Wednesday, February 25, 2009 @ The Paramount Theatre. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, Dec. 16 at GetTix.net and all GetTix outlets, or by phone (866-4GET-TIX). More information here next week, we assume the ticket price, too.
  • Autobus collective outfit (now on hiatus, right?) Brazos recorded a Daytrotter Session recently, offering a previously unreleased song called "EXP." We hear we'll finally get an album from the group in the spring.
  • Brazos also has a song featured on the most recent Espous Magazine compilation, along with another local fave, Shearwater. Check it out here.
  • Austinist loves Grounded in Music, and we're excited to announce their annual fundraiser, scheduled for Jan. 22. Patty Griffin will provide the music. For more information, visit Grounded in Music online.
  • Austin360 is reporting that the recently sold Emo's Lounge sound boards have been moved over to Emo's outdoors. We're not sure if we're sad about the challenge to sound good out there being taken away, or excited to hear more shows that sound like recent ones.
  • Pink Nasty and Black Nasty have both uploaded new tracks at their MySpaces.
  • The Chicken Ranch Records Christmas Party is Thursday, Dec. 11 at the Rainbow Cattle Co.. Proceeds from the event go to Anthropos Arts.
