Tonight is a big night for the Creekside Lounge, an atypical venue for theater or music or anything but drunken babble, though this evening they'll have all three available. First, Gorilla Man will be performed at 7:30, and after that, some of Austin's best home-grown folk/rock will take the stage.
We haven't seen or heard from troubadour Red Hunter and his project Peter and the Wolf in some time, perhaps due to the metamorphosis from that project into its new identity, the relaxed Mellow Owl. As a matter of fact, Hunter has a new record out under the same name, which follows the under-the-radar release of The Ivori Palms.
Also on the bill is {{{Sunset}}}, helmed by Hunter's accomplice Bill Baird. This band has been frighteningly prolific this year, climaxing with the release of the taciturn and accomplished The Glowing City. The Reverse X-Rays will also be promoting their spunky artistic excesses, and the up and coming School Police - who additionally have a Local Live session planned for the 7th - will close with their classic indie formula mixed with organic songwriting.
