Balmorhea and Silent Land Time Machine at The Parish

It's no secret that we in Austinist really crush on Balmorhea. Perhaps it's our gloriously out-of-the closet predilection for hooky, pop-sensible instrumental music. Perhaps it's the great art direction and atmosphere they conjure. Hell, perhaps it's the wonderful folks in the saddle. Those guys are so damned amicable! Why wonder? Just soak this noise up tonight at The Parish Room like so much egg yolk on a pewter plate. We were just listening to their most recent album Rivers Arms the other day, swaying our frisky hips to those pretty jams whilst happily preparing breakfast. This is timeless music; music that is good for everything you do.

Tonight ain't no one-horse bill, though. Silent Land Time Machine are going to mosey on up to the stage right before, a group that is less a group than an idea to be pondered and nibbled upon. They are an enigma to be sure, with songs that sound less like self-contained musical pieces than the effect of some extra-dimensional Doppler effect as a phantom, steampunk train passes you by at a deserted station on an island in the sky. Also, not to be oblique but...it sounds...well...crumbly! In a good way. Indian Queen Melody opens, and jesusmaryandjoseph they don't appear to have a web presence! GASP.
