The Moose Lodge (2103 E.M. Franklin)
$5 for members, $8 for non-members, 5pm-1am
[info]
Just a couple of months ago we reported on a benefit for the Moose Lodge up on Franklin Road which had just been renovated and needed funds to keep pushing forward. Now, the fraternal organization of the Loyal Order of Moose has not only kept the doors open, but are hosting a variety of events in the coming weeks.
First up is RAWR, or Real Austin Women Revue, a Saturday spectacular of theater, art, music and burlesque. Starting at five and not finishing until one in the a.m., bands like Follow That Bird! and No Mas Bodas will perform, in addition to the one-woman-accordion rock of Esmerelda Strange and Girls in the Nose, a six-piece formed in '87 by Kay Turner and Gretchen Phillips, also of seminal Austin band Two Nice Girls.
Aside from the music, see Janine De Azul, Hairy Melon and Rert Object Theatre create art out of nothing before your very eyes, and of course the aforementioned Big Star Burlesque will keep things tantalizing. The event will be catered by Arrarat, and Leisure Tourniquet (one of the multi-talented Henna Chou's nom de plumes, btw) will emcee.
