Last Chance: Tickets to Little Joy Saturday

Back away from the leftovers and get your yayas on over to the Parish Room for an evening of music headlined by Little Joy. The band is a side project for Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti who is joined in this endeavor by Los Hermanos singer/guitarist Rodrigo Amarante, and Bikini Shapiro. Moretti and Amarante have been tight since the pair hit it off at a festival in Lisbon last year. The act is named after a cocktail lounge near the house where the project first took flight, and, as if this didn't all sound too much like charming French cinema already, Moretti and Shapiro are apparently now what we might call an item. (We were going to call them "lovers," but that sort of skeeves us out, even though that's probably more romantic or earnest or something.)

Don't let the tired plot fool you – the sound is an art rock soundscape for a post-national lounge. Or, maybe it's post-national lounge music for an art rock club. Regardless you can catch bits of '60s pop and exotica whirled with sounds traced to Hawaii, Jamaica, and other mid-century vacation hotspots. This isn't the sort of dopey "world music" infused pap that turns into make-out music for guys with terrible ponytails. Instead, it's what all the hip young things are going to be throwing on their turntables for after hours trysts, or parties that they hope segue seamlessly into such. Opening acts include Dead Trees and True Widow.

The point of this all is to say that we're really jazzed about this show (pun absolutely intended), which we're presenting along with 101X's Next Big Thing, Beggars Group, and C3.
