There is no better way to kickoff Thanksgiving week than to fill up your belly over at the Empty Bowl Project Sunday afternoon and then head on over to The Parish to catch a once-in-a-lifetime chance to hear the African Children’s Choir sing in Austin. A lot of the kids in the choir have lost one or both parents to poverty or disease but that doesn’t stop them from stepping up and raising their sweet voices to shine a light on the dire circumstances of others.
Bob Schneider, Guy Forsyth, Carolyn Wonderland, Kacy Crowley & The Band of Heathens will also perform, as if the deal needed to be sweetened any. The African Children’s Choir will perform solo and with the Heathens—hosts of the event along with Connie Britton and Taylor Kitsch, stars of Friday Night Lights.
And before you sputter and cough at the ticket price, think of it this way: all the dough raised on this tour will go to help fund the building of the choir’s new school in Entebbe, Uganda. Pony up two tens and a fin, and get your ass out there. Listen to these kids sing and use it as an uplifting opportunity to think about all the things you’re grateful for.
And remember: basically everyone but Jesus is going to be there (and come to think of it, what with that Second Coming thing forever looming, maybe the Prince of Peace himself will make a cameo appearance) so if you miss it, you really miss it, people. This is a very early show—doors at 4—so don’t screw up and show up after it’s all over.
