The group’s singer, John McCauley, has a seasoned-sounding voice with a hint of southern grit and rattle, which is kind of odd on songs like “Long Time” considering McCauley was only 20 when he wrote and recorded it. That song, along with 13 others, makes up the just re-issued War Elephant. There’s a much older sound that weaves its way through songs like “Standing at the Threshold” giving McCauley’s songs the kind of potent heart and soul that would lead you to believe he’s a man with a weathered outlook on life. There’s a vintage, soulful rock and roll sound along with rambling and whining country livin’ tunes and bluesy folkies. Keep an eye on these guys. They’re at the beginning of something that will no doubt only get better.
Something Interesting: McCauley is barely in his twenties, but he still has the intestinal fortitude to play through even strep throat.
Other Tracks Worth Checking Out: “Beautiful Girls” and “Diamond Rings 2007”

Unfortunately, this project is in such an early stage that they don’t have a MySpace, photos or songs up anywhere. Booher and the Turkeyz made their debut a few months back, played a show in town and then went on tour with Okkervil River. Saturday the band will play Mohawk’s Team Fabrication Fashion Extravaganza at the Mohawk with Til We’re Blue or Destroy.
Something Interesting: The ‘z’ on the end is both a nod to Zykos and Booher’s attempt to join the legionz of those who throw the ‘z’ on the end of a word for effect. You know, because a ‘z’ doesn’t belong there.
Other Tracks Worth Checking Out: Check out the show Saturday, or listen to some Zykos songs like “Understanding Fire” to tide you over.
