Showing support for the Live Music Task Force's recommendations to City Council tomorrow is one of the most important things you can do tomorrow at 2 pm. Prior to LMTF's presentation in chambers, the Save Austin Music folks are organizing a march to city hall, starting at Antone's at 1 pm. They ask that you bring signs and instruments to the (peaceful) march, and are even offering free parking in the basement at city hall and get validated at the meeting.
Why so important? The Live Music Task Force has been meeting for months gathering information, feedback and ideas from the community. They're officially presenting their recommendations tomorrow, and it's in music lovers' best interest to either physically be there or talk about it all day long: without community support, it's too easy for things to get over-looked. The primary, over-arching goal is to implement city-sanctioned organization for the music industry in Austin, starting with a Music Department that functions not unlike the Transportation Department or the Parks & Rec Department. From Save Austin Music:
The Recommendations would create a City Music Department, just as it has a Parks Department, Police Department, and Fire Department. This department would help us deal with issues from parking and noise issues to permits and incentives, while putting City of Austin resources to work to help our industry flourish. It would help create local music businesses and lure other music businesses here, while working to create tax incentives for music businesses and assistance and rebates for soundproofing and energy efficiency. And there are more benefits as well.
