This week leaves nothing to be desired in terms of hip hop shows in ATX. While fans typically have to wait weeks between big names in small clubs, downtown is flooded with talent through the weekend, starting with Method Man and Redman as well as Murs on Tuesday. There's a free Black Sheep show on Wednesday, and on Friday night, Stubb's will host Q-Tip (with the Cool Kids supporting). Before we get ahead of ourselves, however, let's plan on spending Wednesday night with our favorite jazz/hip-hop group, Digable Planets.

Most know Ladybug Mecca, Butterfly and Doodlebug thanks to their 1993 release Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space), the album that delivered their first hit, "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)." By 1994, the group had disbanded, but all three continued to work on solo projects. Doodlebug changed his name to Cee Knowledge and tours with the Cosmic Funk Orchestra, and Butterfly founded the largely ignored Cherrywine album. Ladybug has worked with members of the Roots, Del The Funkyhomosapien and Jurassic 5, and released Trip the Light FantasticBeyond the Spectrum: The Creamy Spy Chronicles, an album full of rarities and unreleased tracks. The group played in NYC at BB King's back in October and plan to release a live album before 2009 arrives. Until then, you can see them (on us) at Emo's by filling out this form and crossing your fingers:
