Longhorns Select Muschamp To Succeed Brown as Head Coach

Many have wondered how University of Texas Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds expected to retain defensive coordinator Will Muschamp when several attractive head coaching positions opened up this summer. Dodds answered today by offering the fiery coach a head coaching job of his own, as eventual successor to current Head Coach Mack Brown.

"This is first and foremost about keeping Will at Texas," Brown said. "He's had several opportunities to interview for head coaching jobs, but we wanted him to stay here. I'm going to continue coaching as I'm enjoying it.”

Brown also noted that he has eight years remaining on his current contract, and has no intention of moving on any time soon. Muschamp was brought to Texas this season after serving as defensive coordinator at Auburn and LSU, where he helped lead the Tigers to a national championship in 2004.

Plus Muschamp said his family won't let him move again any time soon. This gives him the perfect excuse to stay put and say no to any of the potential suitors who come a-calling this spring.

it won't be 8 years, or even half of 8 years for that matter

    ¿Cómo se dice...Pigeonholed?

I get that being head football coach at UT is a sweet gig, but dangling such a carrot 8 years in front of a coordinator? That's a lifetime in football.

I'd say go out and take a chance on building a program at a lesser dominant school. See what kind of a coach you can be without the UT Athletic Department powerhouse behind you.

You can always come home again Muschamp. And if UT wants you bad enough in 8 years, they'll certainly give you the strong payday to come back.
