Music Notes: Gamblers, Khan & What's Wrong With the Scene
- Bonnie 'Prince' Billy has already completed the follow up to this year's Lie Down in the Light. It's called Beware!, and Drag City will release it on March 17, 2009. Uncharacteristically, Oldham will tour in support of it, "simultaneous with the record release, even in major markets." Yes, this means he'll be here during SXSW.
- Shearwater performed a Tiny Desk Concert with NPR's Bob Boilen last time they were in D.C.
- Texas Music Matters @ KUT has video from Funx3 Fest, featuring the Black Angels and the National.
- The new Riverboat Gamblers album, Underneath the Owl, doesn't come out until March 2009, but SPIN is offering a free download of the single, "A Choppy, Yet Sincere Apology."
- Our pals at Gorilla vs. Bear have photos from Saturday's King Khan & BBQ show at the Mohawk.
- Over at Austin Surreal, Bavu Blakes has begun a series called "What's Wrong With the Scene?" Part 1 is up, there are four more to go.
- Failure Fest: the Statesman reports that last weekend's World United Music Festival was cut short on Saturday night due to financial disputes with sound crews and poor attendance.
