Weekend Music Preview: River Revolution Party & The Black and White Years' Eastside Remix

Fun Fest is done and dusted but that’s no reason to stay home this weekend. On Friday, The Story Of celebrates the release of its new album at the River Revolution Party in a cabin on the banks of the Colorado River -- Until the Autumn was recorded at this cabin located at 7601 Shelton Lane (78725) in East Austin. Experience a full night of live music and DJ sets courtesy of local talent such as The Bright Light Social Hour, The Morakestra, DJ Thibault, and DJ Gmau. The Story Of is expected to take the stage around 11 p.m.; the agenda also includes a performance by The Heligoats from Illinois. A shuttle ($8 per person) will run from Progress Coffee to the cabin every hour on the hour starting at 9 p.m. (Enjoy the Progress November Residency series while you wait!) The event is free, biking is encouraged, parking for automobiles is $12 per vehicle, and overnight camping is an option as well -- full details here.

The Mohawk hosts a KVRX 91.7 FM benefit entitled the Presidential Party on Friday. A bludgeoning live show from Cry Blood Apache will be preceded by performances by Pompeii and A Faulty Chromosome, among others. Live Music Capitol delivers quite a show on Friday as well -- Cavedweller, Shapes Have Fangs, and The Astronaut Suit supply the music while Austin Underground Film presents screenings of various experimental films at Bill’s Place (3421 E. Cesar Chavez St., 78702). Beerland counters with a line-up consisting of The Shine Brothers (featuring members of The Black Angels), The Tunnels, Diamondhead, and Christian Bland & The 13th Floor Revelators.

Follow the jump for the Austinist Weekend Music Preview Slideshow, and for a chance to win tickets to see Young Coyotes and The Gay Blades in concert on Sunday!

Other shows on Friday evening worth noting include Dans La Lune at Beauty Bar, Asylum Street Spankers at Aces Lounge, and Ghostland Observatory at Stubb’s. Fully recovered from their energetic set at this year’s SPI Music Fest, no doubt, GLO dazzle again at Stubb’s on Saturday night. After taking the masses on a spiritual journey at The Mohawk earlier this year with The Shrines, King Khan returns to the same venue on Saturday to feed us much more mayhem with the BBQ Show. Amplified Heat at Room 710 and Car Stereo (Wars) at Beauty Bar are two further options for a Saturday night in the Red River District. The latter show will be a mash-up heaven of sorts -- Chicago’s The Hood Internet, like Car Stereo (Wars), will mix ‘n’ match assorted genres to conjure up some refreshing ear candy.

The Compound (1300 E. 4th St., 78702) is home to The Black and White Years’ Eastside Remix this Saturday. The Black & White Years’s stellar self-titled full-length was recently remixed by the likes of DJ Manny, DJ BigFace, and DJ Claude 9, and Manny and BigFace will be on hand to spin those remixes. Live performances by the Years themselves as well as Built By Snow are also on the schedule. Built By Snow just finished up work on their debut full-length MEGA. The album includes many of the pop anthems we’ve grown accustomed to hearing at their shows -- “All The Weird Kids Know” and “Something In 3D” are just two of the instant clap-along-sing-along classics on MEGA. Will Taylor & Strings Attached bring us “The Stevie Wonder Tribute Concert” at Threadgill’s (Downtown) on Saturday -- details here.

“Party like it’s 1929” at the Tough Times bash at I Luv Video (4803 Airport Blvd, 78751) from 4 p.m. till midnight (check out Austinist Weekend Music Preview Slideshow below for details), or wrap up your weekend at Stubb’s (Inside) on Sunday with dainty harmonies from Young Coyotes and gritty riffs from The Gay Blades. That MySpace link to The Story Of is so, so, so wrong. Let me fix that for you.
