In Texas, at least nine cities are participating in this unified effort, and, though we're missing from the map on the left, Austin's looks like it's going to be huge.
Here's how you can participate in Austin's protest, which will take place at City Hall tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. Central time:
- Share the Facebook and Myspace event pages with your friends, family, neighbors, and sworn nemeses
- Print out these handy pdf posters, which bear such slogans as "St8 Against H8," "Mavericks Believe In Equality of Every Man Woman & Child," and "You Don't Have To Be Gay To Believe In Equal Rights," or make one of your own
- Contact Allyson Mays (allykat452 at yahoo.com) if you can lend a hand with organizational logistics
- Show up a little early tomorrow, as many will surely be there already — bring a megaphone if you have one!
- Refrain from using negative, hateful or vulgar language at the event and/or on your protest signs. Keep it classy, folks.
- Avoid blocking any sidewalks, or breaking any other laws — the event organizers have obtained all necessary permits to use City Hall Plaza for the demonstration
- Check this website for more information
-IST sites around the country will be covering their local protests, as well. Share your photo and video content with us by either emailing us directly or tagging them "austinist_prop8" on flickr or youtube. We're planning on sharing this along with the rest of our network next week.

So the Austinist is taking a position on a political issue? Good on you guys. I thought it seemed like you were trying to organize the topless-in-public protest a couple months ago, but didn't want to admit it. The embarrassing thing on that story was that Austin doesn't have restrictions on bare tits in public.
Clearly, here you're encouraging people to participate in this political protest. I'm impressed.

The Olbermann commentary is amazing. Brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for posting.
