After a decade of relentlessly jaunty indie-pop and nine albums, there is no indication that Of Montreal intends to put away the facepaint and hang up their flamboyant costumes anytime soon. Frontman Kevin Barnes, easily one of the most industrious human beings in the music industry, appears capable of cranking out the psychedelic sausage well into the next decade, if not further. They could very well be our indie-rock Stones, touring into their '60s, pulling on fluorescent jodhpurs and gluing feathers into their hair to entertain our grand-children. The scene will be all the better for it, we say. Godspeed, you eccentric Georgians.

Tonight, along with the intriguingly odd Icy Demons(another Elephant Six associated project consisting of Bablicon and Man Man members, among others), they're dressing up and taking the stage down at Fiesta Gardens to hawk the tunes off their newest LP, Skeletal Lamping. The album is a somewhat ambitious project, tacitly through-composed with breakneck thematic changes every few minutes, in and between songs, yet it still retains the Barnes-ian lyrical fizz and funky hooks, giving the band lots of room to freak out. This evening, you'll also be able to catch Barnes knee deep in his alter ego, Georgie Fruit, a 40-something black man that he was transformed into sometime during "The Past is a Grotesque Animal," a dark and revealing track from their last album. Expect lots of vamping. Hell, forget the Stones, he's our new Bowie.
