This Thursday night at 11:55, your good friends at the Alamo South Lamar are playing Let the Right One In, the Swedish horror flick that made such a splash at this year’s Fantastic Fest. But besides being Swedish, this is no ordinary vamp story.
This tale (called Låt den rätte komma in in its Scandinavian homeland – fyi we have no idea where those symbols are on our keyboard, we had to cut and paste) is the story of a friendship between two adorable tow-headed Swedish children, one of whom may or may not be of the undead persuasion. It looks creepy and fun, promising to bring a few chills to your spine’s shivery parts. The fact that it’s playing so late just sets the mood a bit more. (It should be even scarier Friday morning when you look in the mirror – you’re sure to realize why they call it “beauty sleep.”)
(check out the trailer after the jump)
The film has already won a bevy of awards at festivals. There’s talk of an American remake (translation: “crappy version, but without subtitles”) being made soon, and many are saying this will be on their “Ten Best of the Year” lists, so definitely don’t miss out. After all, you want to be the first of your friends to shrug your shoulders and be all “Yeah I saw that already. You haven’t?” Nothing’s worse than being on the other side of that – except maybe having to wait months for the video.
Warning: in case we haven’t made it clear, this film is in Swedish, so bring your reading glasses and be sure to look at the menu before the lights go down. But once the movie starts, be sure to have popcorn in hand; it ain’t a real scary movie until somebody’s covered in their neighbor’s food because a cat jumped out of a garbage can.
**Ed note: If you're too lame for the midnight show, Let the Right One In will begin a regular run at the Alamo South Lamar this Friday, November 14th.

AUTHOR'S UPDATE: while I stand behind my words--the trailer does look scary) I feel I should note that having now seen the film, I realize that the movie is much more dramatic and even a bit romantic, and less of a standard "horror film." I still recommend it highly--just for different reasons. Change your expectations. But still--go.
