Once upon a time the Mountain Goats were basically the project of John Darnielle, and while that's not precisely untrue at this point in time, it's less true than it used to be, Darnielle having dragged along Peter Hughes when he signed with 4AD a few years ago. The albums the pair have produced since have been a slew of stirring things, still full of the Mountain Goats' signature humor, lush narratives and lo-fi audio aesthetic, but things have been fine tuned, and the resultant albums have managed to somehow satisfy long-term fans while still making the project more readily intelligible to the uninitiated. In any case, the act's currently touring in support of, well, mostly in support of touring, though they did put out Heretic Pride in February of this year.
Opening up the show will be Georgia darling Kaki King, best known for her guitar playing. Although King still produces a large number of instrumentals, her work has become more readily intelligible as something of the singer-songwriter genre, a move which has brought to the forefront her voice, which sounds like a lullaby from outside time.
