First Batch of SXSW Film Speakers Announced

Though the SXSW Film Festival is still a long way off, a few fantastic speakers have just been confirmed.

For starters, filmmakers Richard Linklater and Todd Haynes will appear in conversation, discussing their influences, inspirations, and working methods. Haynes is probably best known for his recent critical smash I'm Not There, but his previous films (including Far From Heaven, Velvet Goldmine, Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story) and his music videos for Sonic Youth are enough to get us excited about his appearance. Austinite Linklater should need no introduction, and he'll no doubt be discussing his upcoming period drama Me and Orson Welles, which stars Zac Efron and Claire Danes.

In addition, IMDB founder Col Needham will give a keynote focusing on the nature of information in the entertainment industry, and longtime Stanley Kubrick collaborator Jan Harlan will discuss his experience working with the legendary director, as well as his own films.

If you're interested in attending the fest, you'd do well to buy a badge soon--prices will jump $25 on November 16th, then another $25 in January. If you're a filmmaker, you've still got a shot at participating in next year's fest; the early deadline for film submissions is November 14th, and the late deadline is December 12th.
