By now you know that there's a huge music festival happening over the weekend of Nov. 8-9. We're going to be there all weekend, and we're thrilled that so many reputable names will be coming to town to play, but we're also more dedicated than ever when it comes to spreading the word about our local music community: the bands that keep it running year-round, and the fans who still believe in leaving the house to take part in their scene. We're proud of this community, and we can't think of a better time to celebrate it than on the eve of Fun Fun Fun Festival. Join on us November 7 promptly at 8 p.m. for Local Music Is Sexy VI at the Mohawk Bar on Red River.

This year's lineup is nothing to sneeze at. The evening begins with The Eastern Sea, a hauntingly beautiful indie-folk trio. They are without a doubt one of the most promising young acts in town, and we're encouraging people to get there early for their set. Following them will be Leatherbag, fronted by Randy Reynolds. This year's Love & Harm is one of our favorites of '08, brimming with devilish '70s influences, a sort of Lou Reed meets the Kinks sound. Lovely Sparrows will follow Leatherbag, no doubt performing many tunes from their enchanting new album, Bury the Cynics. Shawn Jones & Co.'s tender and mystical chamber folk will be a perfect opening for our main course, Brothers & Sisters. This year's Fortunately displays the band's talents in bigger ways than we've previously experienced from them on record, delivering warm harmony and elegant melodies in spades. At midnight, the crowd will make like sardines and snuggle up indoors for a Prince-style dance party courtesy Foot Patrol, who we know we can count on to bring down the house with the pure, unadulterated force of feet, dance music and (naturally) their legendary dancers.

Progress Coffee will be on hand, serving hot toddies and espresso shots all night, and we'll be serving a variety of special treats (think pizza, kabobs, and tacos) from other local vendors as well. Annie Ray will be on hand with her always-alluring photo booth, and we might just have a couple more surprises in store, so stay tuned.

As always, the party is completely free.

Local Music is Sexy 6 is made possible by our generous and amazing sponsors: BMI, Birds Barbershop, Transmission Entertainment, Progress Coffee, Maker Faire, Mary Louise Butters, and Annie Ray Photography. Thanks, guys!
