Your Maps of Austin at Maker Faire [Gallery]

If you stopped by the Austinist table at last weekend's Maker Faire, we might have convinced you to fill out a map of the places or things that are important to you in our fair city. Submissions ranged from informative to sassy to just plain colorful, and we're presenting some of our favorites here.

If you can't view the Flash slideshow above, you should check them out directly from our flickr page. Some of these may take a while to load — sit tight! Also, one of these maps is slightly NSFW.

So Hyde Park is in East Austin now? =)

actually, where Hyde Park really is is within the part labeled so eloquently (and typical for Austin idiots) Red State Texas. If 35th street north to Braker is worthless Red State Texas and South Dallas, then what about the 1/3 of the city that's actually further out than that?

Fact: 65% of Austin Austinites cannot find Hyde Park on a map.

Fact: 95% of Austinites are not as artistic as they think they are.

Thank you, Daniel Aranda, for being the exception to the rule. Your map is very nice and useful.

Aranoa? I don't know, the one with the big $ over West Austin.

Not only can most people not find Hyde Park on a map, there are a lot of people who think they live in Hyde Park but don't. And I think that's Hyde Park East, you know, like Travis Heights East.

Wow. Can i assume these maps were made by people who have chauffeurs and thus need not know their way around town?

oh come on. They could just be suburbanites from LeanderParkPflugerRock - like the half of whom thought Clarksville was "down in south Austin" when they were at my condowarming years ago.

That grammar is confusing enough I'm going to leave it like it is. Dag, yo.

I want...no, need to know what the "happy place" is near the water's edge in that dog park. Help, kind artist. Unless I really don't want to know.

I want to know if the person that colored the first map would be willing to go to Lamar and Rundberg and tell the people living there that they're all Republican and living in South Dallas.

Maybe that's the South South Oak Cliff part of South Dallas?
