Swad is my favorite Indian restaurant in town for ~South Indian~ cuisine. Tamils and Kerlans can do more wonders with basmati, chick peas and lentils than is conceivable and the good folks at Swad do it the best this side of the subcontinent. Highly highly recommended.

Swad is indeed excellent. In fact I'd say it's one of the best restaurants in Austin. Just one thing... Swad does not serve "vegetarian" food. "Vegetarian" is not a type of cuisine, it's a dietary choice. Swad serves very tasty Indian cuisine, which in their case happens to made without any meats, and thus would be appropriate for those who've selected a vegetarian diet.

So is it Southern Indian or Pakistani? Those two regions are pretty far apart, since Pakistan is adjacent to the Punjab region in Northwestern India.

Definitely eat the Dosa at Swad itself -- it won't be the same if you take it home. Enjoy a Thums Up to boot. Great review! I also recommend the Bhel Puri.
