Wake Up Early This Sunday For AIDS Walk Austin

The infection rate for HIV is three times higher for Latinos and six times higher for African Americans in Central Texas.
This Sunday marks the 21st AIDS Walk Austin – the largest fundraiser for AIDS Services of Austin which provides essential services to the approximately 5,000 people living with HIV/AIDS in Central Texas. In addition to raising crucial funds, the walk also helps raise awareness and educate the Austin community about HIV/AIDS.

Mayor Wynn will kick off Sunday’s event at 9:30AM along with Emcee Lolis Garcia-Baab, host of the "The Ladies Room with Lolis" radio show. The 5K walk will begin at 10AM and is expected to draw 1,000 walkers and 100 teams. Portions of the AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on display inside City Hall, including panels created in memory of Central Texas residents as well as Ricky Wilson, Freddie Mercury, Ryan White and Keith Haring, among others.
