Trailer Space Records Grand Re-Opening Benefit

OK, so it's not exactly charity, but it's a great cause, nonetheless. Trailer Space Records is, was, and will soon be again, what Austin is best at: grassroots music aesthetes making and promoting their - and others' - wares. If you check out their Myspace, you'll see endearing entreaties to bands on the run, asking them to think coming to play at the little blue building "next to a middle school." That's what separates Austin's scene from so many others, our unique mix of self-effacement and swagger, die-hard connoisseurship and a big-tent sonic philosophy. Everyone is welcome and no one will be turned away, just grab a Lone Star and take a listen.

It is a distinct glory that Trailer Space and its ilk demonstrate to us these tried-and-true Texan traits, but it should also be mentioned that they're dying by the thousands, and not just in Austin. Withering on the vine like unpicked jalapeños in the midst of a decades long drought, record stores and live venues alike are an endangered species, as most of you already know. It's up to fans to step up and show their support if we want to have any of these crazy characters left in our city, and that's exactly what we have the opportunity to do this evening.
