If you’re like us, you look forward to the weekend now more than ever. Saturday doesn’t just mean not having to think about work/school crap, it also means sleeping in. But remember when it used to mean something different? It used to mean getting up early, dragging your blanket (“binky” to some) into the living room and turning on the television for a rousing episode of Muppet Babies or The Super Harlem Globetrotters.

Well, your friends at the Alamo Downtown are blasting you back to the past (on the Great Space Coaster perhaps?) with their Saturday Morning Cartoon Cereal Party this, er, Saturday. Starting at noon (so you can still get your beauty sleep and perhaps recover from Friday night shenanigans), they’re offering two and a half hours of cartoons and all the cereal you can eat (diabetics beware: sugary kinds only). Choose from over fifty (FIFTY!) different kinds so you can really get that sugar buzz going like you used to.

The question you’re no doubt wondering now is, ”sounds cool, but which cartoons are they showing?” and there’s the beauty. In true “power to the people” style, they’ll have a “futuristic TV menu” that will allow you to decide what you watch. There’s no reason to sit through that short-lived Pac-Man show when you really want to watch that short-lived Mr. T Cartoon. If He-Man is too “fantastical” for you, perhaps GI Joe should be nominated. (NOTE: We do not know the cartoons on the menu, we are merely reminiscing ourselves). Now’s your chance to decide who would win in a Thunderdome style battle—Jem or Thundarr (cause you know it ain’t the Care Bears). Let the people decide. It’s democracy in action!

This event is more for the kid in you than it is for actual kids, though children over six can come if accompanied by an adult. But we suggest buying tickets in advance, as it sold out last time.
