If you've been broken up about the seeming demise of local anti-melody noise rockers Horse + Donkey, you'll be thrilled to know that Followed by Static is still standing. The band's comprehensive sound, comprised of noise, cave-dwelling vocals and angular guitars is a live treat, and with tunes like "Bloody Arrows" offering more restrained moments, it's definitely a set you shouldn't miss. Taking prefab Casio beats and layering them with reverb-drenched vocals, spare guitars and fuzz, Followed by Static succeed at not-rock surprisingly well. They're working on the art of sneaking in melody where it struggles to take root, and abandoning a tune for grit just as the ear begins to settle. There's nothing but everything familiar about this group, and we're anxious to see how their sound develops.
They'll be supported by Monkey Town, a raucous power pop outfit in the vein of Jawbox or Fifteen, and Monster Sleeps Quiet, who play a more gentle form of indie pop.
