Austinist <3s HAAM: Room 710 Hosts Benefit Day Party, Super Pal Universe Entertains the Kids

HAAM Benefit Day show w/ Dixie Witch, Tia Carrera
Tuesday, Oct. 7 - Free
Room 710 (710 Red River)
9 p.m., 21 and up
[info]
In case you weren't aware, there are thousands of working musicians in Austin, many of whom don't have health insurance. The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians has existed for three years, working daily to provide low-cost primary health care services, basic dental care and mental health counseling for Austin-area musicians and their families.

Tuesday is their annual benefit day, during which participating businesses will donate 5% of the day's proceeds to HAAM to support musicians' health. Musicians, most of whom are HAAM members, perform throughout the day at retail stores, outside stages, City Hall and more. The event runs from 6 a.m. to well past midnight and community members are invited to shop, eat out, listen to great live music and enjoy.

One such event takes place at Room 710, featuring Dixie Witch and Tia Carrera. Dixie Witch's pure American motor rock will spill its grit all over the place, right after Tia Carrera's ear-blasting metal sets them up. It's a show not to be missed, we recommend you drink heavily: 5% of the bar's earnings go right towards the health and well-being of many local artists.

Earlier in the evening at Phil's Icehouse, Super Pal Universe will host a benefit party featuring the Telephone Company, Chief Rival, and Jolly Garogers. Super Pal Universe, led by Austin musician Sara Hickman, is
targeting teens and pre-teens with a combination of original music and calls for
greater social awareness and community participation. The show starts at 4 p.m., and Super Pal Universe will perform at 7 p.m.

Furious Austin hard rock and kids stuff not your bag? Download the full schedule or donate directly to HAAM without leaving your house at all.
