Tonight, the
Mexic-Arte Museum will celebrate the opening of their 13th run of their annual
Young Latino Artists exhibition.
YLA 13: Everything's Going to be Okay features the work of Latino artists under the age of 35 who hail from all over Texas. The show focuses on work that challenge traditional mediums and reexamine aesthetic and social norms.
Everything's Going to be Okay attempts to illustrate "how moments of vulnerability can turn into our greatest strengths". The show's curator,
Leslie Moody Castro, looked for art in a wide range of mediums that represented the personal experiences of the artists, not merely their ethnic or cultural histories.
The opening reception will kick off with a member's preview between 6 and 7pm, followed by a public opening from 7 to 9pm. Austin artist Carlos Rosales-Silva will perform at 8pm. Rosales-Silva's mixed-media installation pieces have been seen recently at Co-Lab and at Women and their Work. Reception refreshments will be provided by Real Ale Brewing Company and Local Creative Edibles. Hmm, new art, beer, and food?... perhaps everything really is going to be okay.
Everything's Going to be Okay: Young Latino Artists 13 runs through November 9th.
Wasn't there just a show last month at OK Mountain called "Everything's Going to be Okay"?
LoadMouth, I think you are referring to the Okay Mountain group show at UT's Creative Research Lab last January called "It's Gonna Be Everything."
