Erykah Badu played to a feverish crowd on Saturday. The Dallas native kicked off her set by proclaiming her dedication to her Texas roots, and proceeded to ask for a "new America," inciting both the young and old fans in the crowd to hysteria. This was my unexpected surpirse for the day; I love Erykha Badu's voice, jazz infused compositions, and of course --the Diva Factor. So despite all of the usual reasons to have enjoyed this set, I wasn't quite expecting the level of intellect, complexity, and even humanity wrought by her new release and delivered live via ACL.
