The Return Of The Ginger Man

In a week positively spattered with less-than-fun news, some good news lives between the headlines. Old school Austin beer fans cried a collective, "Booo!" when it was announced that the Ginger Man's space was slated for demolition to make room for -- you guessed it -- a brand new high rise!

Now those same fans can let loose a collective, "Yay!" or "Yee-haw!" or whatever feels right, as the Ginger Man has found a new home at 301 Lavaca St., just a beer-coaster's throw from their original location. Current plans have them opening in their new space by the end of the year.

Hallelujah. What's at that location now?

Interurban Development & the W construction offices.
[Insert sh*tty comment about condos, Californians and d-bags here.]

OK...Condos, Californians and D-bags are all shitty!

Awww yeahhhh.

And it looks like a prime location for a rooftop deck. . . if not a backyard one.

I hope they bought it!

hmmm, it'll take a while to break in. hopefully they go with the 'partial' remodel and keep the old building feel...

Great news! Now if someone will just resurrect Waterloo Brewery I can die a happy man.

i hear that. i often wonder why it didn't obtain "iconic" status, as it WAS the first brewpub in Texas.

Werd, this is great news! Please make sure to open the new location with the same look and feel. Without that, an unwanted new crowd may descend upon the brew. I also miss Waterloo - it was one of the best places in town.

Does anyone care that this is the oldest warehouse building in Austin? Have you written a letter to the company who is planning to demolish this landmark? Is the company The Gables?

They don't care about that JRR. All that matters to those companies is squeezing more money out of newly-arrived condo seekers. Those companies are more interested in redesigning Austin to look and feel like New York or LA.
