More bad news this week ... but this time it comes from San Francisco instead of Wall Street. Sadly, SF's proto-grunge godfathers Flipper have canceled their 30th anniversary tour, and with it their much-anticipated slot on the punk stage at this year's FunFunFun Fest. The reason? Kris Novoselic, founding member of Nirvana and a relatively recent (ie. the last ten years) addition to the Flipper lineup, has left the band. No one could ever hope to play "Sex Bomb" like he could, but surely they could have, at the very least, picked someone out of the audience? The songs aren't that hard. In any event, the folks over at Transmission moved fast and the vacant slot has been filled by Virginia thrash-bingers Municipal Waste. Good choice: Municipal Waste wowed 'em at last year's FFF with a blistering set of retro-hardcore, and is, quite literally, the next best thing to having an actual legendary '80s hardcore band onstage. Expect heads to bang and beer cans to fly.

Ouch. That's like when Charles Attal lost that big band for his shitty music festival.
