If you’re still decompressing from Burning Man and want to get your money’s worth out of that leather vest and chaps outfit you’ve only worn once, perhaps you ought to head on down to the Alamo South Lamar -- this Friday they’re putting the “roll” in “Rolling Roadshow” with a screening of The Road Warrior. In the parking lot.

Yeah, it’s time for part two. Last week they screened the original, Mad Max to much ado. Enough ado (?) that they came back for a second helping. Many consider the 1981 sequel to actually be better (!) than the original post-Apocalyptic action flick. Starring (we don’t need to tell you) Mel Gibson as Max Rockatanasky, an amazingly psychologically scarred ex-cop trying to survive in a world where gasoline is more rare and valuable than food and masked WWF-rejects named “Lord Humungous” lead roving bands of violent Red Hot Chili Pepper-rejects.

Director George Miller pretty much defined the “Post-Apocalyptic” genre with this nihilistic series; the idea’s been ripped off by everyone from Tank Girl to Tom Petty to Tupac Shakur. It’s not heavy on the dialogue, but the action is primo -- sure to keep you gripping the plastic armrests of your folding lawnchair. And while it may not be the most comfortable, this is one of those “Austin” things you just have to take advantage of, because where else can you do something this awesome?

And once the movie starts, you’re sure to be transported. When the crazy thugs with flamethrowers run dune buggies into a semi truck being driven by a guy shooting a sawed-off shotgun (it’s been a while, but we’re pretty sure this actually happens) and explode like they were made of popsicle sticks, it will feel just like you’re back in Black Rock City. And even if you’re not one of those nutcases with furry pants in your closet, it will be cool—'cause you’re watching a badass car movie in a parking lot. And that’s the way Mad Max would have wanted it.
