It's not supposed to be 65 on a September night in Austin, but then again a Monday night shouldn't rock so hard and require so much manic dancing, like a Shaker rock revival only without the sensible furniture. Shrouded in kitschy smoke machine haze and shredding through songs from all three of their full length albums, Ratatat delivered their epic blend of rock, hip-hop, and electronic inspired guitar riffs, laying a rich blanket of saturated feedback, fuzz, and synthesizers over the sold-out amphitheater. While the set lacked some of the urgency and immediacy of their indoor performances, new songs like "Bruleé" brought a more dynamic sensibility to the usual mix of genre bending licks. Even Drew Barrymore, who is currently filming here, dropped by to watch the guitar hero's wailing in front of a projection of scenes from Predator, Abba music videos and looped explosions. Despite the dance friendly mercury, it's a shame they didn't stick with their usual Austin choice of an indoor venue; they could have really blown the roof off.
