The band dropped their fourth full-length The Black And White Album late last year and the record revealed a noticeable maturation. No longer content in only belting out two minute garage rock anthems, The Hives garnered assistance from plenty of luminaries when producing the new album, including Pharrell Williams. The result is their most diverse collection of songs containing the requisite blasts of explosive rock (“Tick Tick Boom”) but also some un-Hives-like tracks like the grooving (almost ironically titled) “The H.I.V.E.S.,” off-kilter compositions like “A Stroll Through Hive Manor Corridors” and “Puppet On A String,” and the repetitive (and somewhat annoying) “Giddy Up!” “Well Alright” may well have ended before hitting the two minute mark in the past but includes a brief bridge that slows things down before Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist returns to pick up the tempo with a scream of “woohoo.”
In concert, The Hives rarely disappoint -- Almqvist struts around much like Mick Jagger, constantly conversing with the crowd, and the band’s showboating showmanship always makes for an entertaining evening. Check them out on us! Enter below for a chance to win two tickets to tonight’s show!
