Finally, a film from a country that knows how to put kids to work! Kidding (sort of).

Please Vote for Me documents a Model UN-styled event held by a Chinese elementary school to elect a class monitor, a position that (surprise, surprise) is usually appointed by the teacher. The ensuing melee is a Nixon/Stalin-like wheeling and dealing from which, evidently, only one can emerge as "Supreme Leader."

So it's Survivor meets Spellbound and the Communist Party's elections. The filmmaker is a local from Whutan, where the film was shot, helping him parse China's strange relationship with democracy and economy, and foreshadowing some future release of democracy in China, or anywhere for that matter.

This film cannot be shown in China—as good a reason as any to exercise your freedom muscle
and witness it yourself.
